Historic Significance of Edgard

Edgard is recognized as a Historic District. The St. John the Baptist Historic District Commission plays a crucial role in preserving the area's charm. According to their website, they are dedicated to conserving and enhancing historic buildings, sites, and neighborhoods. Their work includes encouraging compatible rehabilitation and new construction through the review and issuance of Certificates of Appropriateness for local historic districts and designated landmarks.


A Glimpse into the Past

The building in question has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1898. Over the years, it has served various purposes, including:

  • General Store

  • Bank

  • Pharmacy

  • General and Law Offices

  • Café

  • Meeting Space

  • Bookstore


Current Renovation Efforts

To bring this historic building back to life, contractor Jimmy Gros of Improvements, LLC, has assembled a talented team of professionals.


This includes:

  • Architect: Mike Ballard of Firmora Project Management

  • Structural Engineer: Arthur Malbroue of Malbroue Consulting Engineering and Design

  • Skilled Craftsmen


The permitting process is currently underway as contracts are finalized. Interior cleanup has begun, paving the way for exciting renovations ahead!
