My Contractor Jimmy laughs, because I have a tendency to call Demolition "Destruction" - it fits, does it not? The tearing apart to make way for the new.
Historical Use of the Building
After the general store closed in the 1980s, the newer wood building continued to serve various purposes over the years.
It has functioned as:
An attorney’s office
Occasional overflow space for court, given its proximity to the parish courthouse
A café and bookstore
A meeting space
However, some renovations made during this time are not conducive to our current plans.
Current Renovations
Key updates include:
Removal of old HVAC equipment to be replaced with new
Elimination of wood cubbies that were later additions
Relocation of original shelving from the back section to the front for repurposing and make way for addition of attic stairs access
Cleared the newer kitchen addition to facilitate a reconfigured floorplan.
Addition of appropriate restroom space
Addition of appropriate ramp access egress

Cubbies added later in the Store's life will be removed

Original shelving from the back room is moved for continued use
Our goal is to respect and honor the original building as much as possible
Preserving Original Features
As part of the renovation process, old light fixtures are being removed to make way for suitable replacements. Notably, one of the original gas light fixtures will be wired for use, ideally positioned over the café bar. Additionally, the original wood and textured-glass paneled office area will be preserved in its original condition.

We have another available for use in the Store

The original offices feature beautiful wood and textured glass.
We will preserve the antique and historic aesthetic in numerous ways, occasionally incorporating suitable modern materials. Throughout the renovation process and into the future, our goal is to respect and honor the original building as much as possible.
